Abstract:
The main objective of this deliverable is to present the cooperating sentient vehicle demonstrator and the associated story board which was demonstrated at the final CORTEX review meeting. It also aims to illustrate the middleware solutions developed within CORTEX. Additionally, these could also be seen as technology demonstrators, illustrating the key concepts of the CORTEX project. This provides relevant input for the evaluation report (see deliverable D13). More specifically, this deliverable includes the following 4 main proof-of- concept prototype demos carried out using real hardware:
• Autonomous sentient vehicle navigation on any given virtual circuit
• The cooperating sentient vehicles
• End to End Quality of Service management and fail safety
• Run-time reconfiguration of sentient objects and middleware
A brief description of the sentient vehicle test bed and hardware platform of the vehicles follows next. A description GUI programs utilised to highlight the behind the scene operations of the demonstrator is also included. The main issues focused by these demos include: a) communication through event-channels; b) the use of sensor technology; c) sensor fusion; d) dealing with timeliness and fail safety requirements; e) QoS policy adaptation; e) context awareness; f) inference engine; and g) runtime reconfiguration of component framework based middleware and the use of a component framework. The document provides an overview of the demonstrated scenarios, pointing out their objectives and describing their main steps by means of a storyboard.
