Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the management styles practiced by non-profitable organizations. Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) was picked as the case study. The study was be guided by the following research questions: What are the attributes of Management/Leadership Styles practiced in the Organization? What are the challenges faced by the type of Leadership/Management styles practiced in the organization? And finally what are the strategies for effective Management style? Descriptive research design was used in this study, i.e. this research design involved observing and describing the behavior of a subject without influencing it in any way. The target population in the study was the employees of Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD). A sensor was used to obtain the sample since the population was less than 100 employees. This technique allowed the researcher to ensure that all that Opinion of everyone in the population was included in the study. Data collection tool that was used to collect the relevant information was the questionnaires. Data was presented in tables and figures. Data was coded, sorted and analyzed using regression analysis to ensure effective and efficient analysis process. The researcher used Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) for analysis. The study found out that the outlined attribute of management styles were practiced in the organization, management theory increases managerial efficiency by providing the guidelines to help the managers solve problems in organization, the management of the organization are focus and plans ahead, the management anticipates changes and take corrective measures in time and that various external conditions have led to changes in management practice. On factors of the challenges faced by the type of management styles practiced m the organization, the study found out that the success of management dependent on the prevailing conditions within and outside the organization, it was also the study's finding the behaviour and traits of the manager determines how success the organization is or will be and lastly, the managers promote training programs that encourage diversity in workplace. On factors of the strategies for good management style, it was the study' s findings that the management has assembled a diverse workforce in the organization, the organization's management takes charge and streamline the activities and this has led to great goals being achieved and finally that the organization's management understand and appreciate all manner of diversity and communicate with those diverse populations effectively. On factors of the challenges faced by the type of management style practiced m the organization, the study recommends that the management of the organization should be more relationship building oriented. It is also the study's recommendations that the management be cost effective oriented and finally the study recommends that the organization's management uses consultative management style. The study recommends that the organization's management need to empower their subordinate to achieve their goals, the management of the ozganization should also actively involve other employees in the planning and give them direction to make their own decisions. It is also the study's recommendations that the management of the organization should be more relationship building oriented. The researcher recommends that further research been done on the same topic using different organization as the case study. The study also recommends that further study be done on evaluation of the management style on profit making organization.
