Abstract:
Study population includes the 5,000 residents, livestock and crops of the eight Sinyerere villages. A sample of 2,500 participated in the study.
A descriptive quantitative approach was used to establish relationships between the variables.
The dependent variables include the sources of water (wells, rivers, boreholes and tap).
The independent variables include health of livestock, crops, boys schooling, girls schooling, mortality of family members, father sickness, mother sickness, children sickness records and house hold income records of the previous year.
Primary data was collected using structured questionnaires.
Stata® 14 was used to analyze data.
The study determined that the source of water is significantly related to;
Education of school going children especially young girls.
Mortality of family members.
Health of family members.
Productivity of crops and livestock.
Income of households.
The study further established that there is a significant relationship between the sources of water and the households’ choice to use each source.
