dc.description.abstract The growing importance of strategic alliances coupled with their unsatisfactory performance or outright failure, especially in developing economies, serious management dilemma for firms in Kenya. This study was aimed investigating the impact of strategic alliances on the performance of operating in Kenya, namely Kenya Airways and Royal Dutch Airline, and Courier and TNT International Express. The study explored and answered following broad quesfions: 1. What are the main objectives for entering the strategic alliance? 2. What critical areas need to be addressed in the planning and implementation of strategic alliances? 3. What are the major benefits of strategic alliances? What are the main challenges faced by firms in strategic alliances? The research design was a case study. The study focused on four firms that strategic alliances in Nairobi. A sample top and functional managers four selected firms namely: Kenya Airways and Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM), TNT Intemational Express and Nation Courier were used for the study. The data were collected using a structured questionnaire developed by the researcher. questionnaire was distributed to 10 of the respondents who completed researcher held face-to-face interviews with of the respondents questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in terms and frequency distribution for quantitative data. The data were summarized presented in tables, bar graphs and pie charts. The analysis was done according four broad categories arising from the research questions. The data was excel spreadsheet. The results showed that the firms involved in the strategic alliances objectives of expanding their network, enlarging their market share, and their profitability through benefits from synergies and en_US
