Abstract:
Kenya experiences a wide diversity of cultural thinking that generates from thousands of years of historical economic activity. Likewise in the world, there exists four main ways of thinking: the African way, the European way, the South Asian way, and the East Asian way. Why does the world have these four main styles of thought? How did each of these four great methods of thinking begin and grow? Everything boils down to geography. As influential psychologist Dr. Richard Nisbett discovered, geography determines how a culture develops its thought process. He examined in great detail the vast thinking differences between Westerners and East Asians. Greek philosophy, culture, and ideas dominated the ancient Middle East and Europe. Ever read the Old Testament of the Bible? It seems remarkably similar to traditional Sub-Saharan Africa. However, once the New Testament came about, the tone and culture changed considerably. Parts of Europe and huge swaths of the Middle East came under the influence of Greek thinking. Ask your pastor about the process of Hellenization in between Old and New Testament times. Greece developed remarkable science, mathematics, democracy, literature, drama, and philosophy for its day. Greek culture influenced everything with its obsession of the pursuit and discovery of the truth.
